Update on our House
It’s been awhile since I posted an update on our house building adventure. If you didn’t read my original blog post, check out Taking the Plunge: Building a House .
The wait is KILLING me!
Patience is not one of my virtues, so we were constantly checking to see if the builders had broken ground. Week after week, nothing happened. However, we weren’t too upset about that because it meant we had more time to save money. We’re going to need a LOT of money!
One day on the way to one of the boys’ soccer practice, we noticed there were TWO communities with the same builder…in the area we’d originally been looking!
We went to the representative in the model home to ask about them, and to ask if it was possible to change communities. My husband and I didn’t hold out much hope because the sales person told us that once the permits were submitted, we couldn’t change anything on the house.
Surely that meant we wouldn’t be able to change the entire location of the house! However, what would it hurt by asking?
Long story short, we ended up choosing the community we wanted (literally right behind the soccer field), AND ended up with a slightly bigger house! We were so excited, but as I’m sure you’ve realized… we had to start from square one.
Adams Homes have the BEST sales representatives
The salesperson for our new community was super nice, and made the process much easier. We had to re-choose our house color, cabinets, carpeting, etc., and ended up changing some things, and adding additional upgrades. We decided not to have the builders add in the garage-door opener, but chose to have them install heavy-duty blinds…. definitely a better option.
My family is back to driving by the property every weekend to check for any ground-breaking (they broken ground on the original property the day before we signed for the new house… go figure)… or any kind of update!
Planning, planning, and more planning
Our weekends are now spent window shopping for furniture, fish tanks, patio furniture, etc. Warning you now, if you decided to start window shopping for furniture… have a LOT of patience. You will be attacked the second you walk in the door.
Some salespeople quickly disappear when we tell them it will be six to eight months before we’re ready to buy… but now they’ve started telling us about the option to put a down payment to “lock in the prices”. They hover so close that I end up feeling claustrophobic.
The house we are building is a copy of the model home in the original community we were building in… which makes us feel SUPER guilty. We LOVE walking through the model to imagine what our home is going to look like… but we feel SO guilty that we left Robert. He was such a sweet guy. Fortunately, he has been amazing. He was really supportive of us living in the community that we would be happy with.
Adams Homes has been amazing!
I have to say, so far, Adams Homes has really impressed me. Everyone has been really patient with us, and have supported us through everything. No one ever seems aggravated with us, or tired of seeing us (and we visit A LOT).
We’re back to waiting six to eight months to owning our own home, but it still doesn’t bother us because now, it gives us even more time to save money.
Stay tuned for more updates!
