Summer Bucket List
I can’t believe that it’s already summer! Where did the school year go? It seems like the kids JUST started school. Now we’re planning for their summer vacation?
Fortunately, I don’t have to worry about where they will be going for the summer while I’m working. They are enrolled with the Boys’ and Girls’ Club.
I LOVE that they are going to be able to have SO much fun with activities and friends. Furthermore, the city built a brand-new water park right next to the club. Gage and Michael are going to have a blast!
While they are set for the weekdays, I also want to create really fun memories for them on the weekends.
As you all know, my husband works Saturdays so the boys and I try to spend that day with the older kids. I try to find fun things to do that will also get everyone out of the house.
I really, really hate that they are stuck in the house all day. Even worse, they are way out in the middle of nowhere, so they can’t really walk anywhere either.
Most weekends, after I get a little work on this blog completed and the boys have breakfast, we go get the older boys (the girls are always busy), and we go on a nature hike.
They aren’t exactly thrilled to be out walking in the heat…but they still go. Plus, once we get to the river trail, the rest is in the shade. I love being able to spend that time with them.
The past few summers, we don’t usually do much else. We used to go to the pool in the community where we live, but it’s been pretty crowded.
Even though the pool is only for residents, people who don’t live here drive right in. The manager doesn’t like confrontation so he doesn’t say anything.
This year, I have a list of things that I want to complete (at least once) by the end of the summer.
Top Items on my Summer Bucket List
We have a couple of U-Pick farms in our county. I have been wanting to go to one of them FOREVER!
I’ve always been hesitant because I haven’t been to one. Well, that’s not true, I have a very vague memory of going to one, but I was really, really young.
We all really love fruit. The boys love eating it frozen (especially in the brutal heat of the summer). I’ve been noticing signs for blueberries everywhere!
This is our year!
It’s been a really long time since I’ve been to an actual beach…like one at the ocean. I know that probably sounds ridiculous since I live in Florida…but I live in CENTRAL Florida.
We live smack-dab in the middle of the state. It’s around an hour and 45 minutes to Daytona. I don’t like driving the 10 minutes to work.
I also hate planning anything, and going to the beach with kids takes a LOT of planning…. not to mention there are sharks, jellyfish, crabs, and who knows what else!
No more excuses…we are going this year!
This is another trip that I feel awful for missing this year. The library would have been an awesome place to hang out on Saturdays when Daddy is working.
We LOVE, LOVE, LOVE books. The boys and I would be in heaven if we were surrounded by books.
I just don’t usually think about it, except for in the morning when I’m on my way to work. By Saturday, I’ve totally forgotten about it. I’m putting a reminder in my Google calendar now!
Our mall built an amazing bowling alley and arcade area not too long ago. We visit the arcade area every few weeks, but we’ve never been bowling. This summer I definitely want to show the boys that I have skills (with the bumpers up, of course…just sayin’).
I remember bowling when I went to the Boys’ and Girls’ club, and I know Gage went last year, but I really want to go as a family. My oldest daughter was two the last time I went bowling…she’s 19 now…smh.
We paid for an annual membership for the Museum of Science and Industry and, so far, we’ve been twice. It’s really hard to take four boys to Tampa by myself…but it’s SO worth it.
MOSI is a really fun, interactive science adventure for both children and adults. Tampa is a long drive, but the kids have SO much fun when we go.
In addition to attending MOSI, other attractions are covered with our membership…depending on the month. I need to find the list they gave us (it’s hidden in one of the 10 purses with which I switch back and forth.
