Skin Care for Working Moms
I never really thought much about my skin. I know that sounds strange because I refuse to grow old gracefully. OH NO, I plan to fight it kicking and screaming!
So, I guess taking care of my skin should have been my first self-care priority. However, I’m a busy mom…I’m lucky if I remember to brush my teeth some days. I even keep a toothbrush and toothpaste in my desk at work since I forget most mornings (yep, I have deodorant in there too).
Introduction to Moisturizing
A few weeks ago, I won a giveaway from Mix and Match Mama…anyone who reads my blog know how HUGE my mom-crush is on Shay. Seriously guys, if you haven’t checked out her blog, go now…you will totally fall in love with her.
I won a Clinique Moisture Surge Overnight Mask, and the most heavenly UGG slippers that seriously make you moan when you wear them (don’t judge till you try them).
I’d just bought a jar of Oil of Olay Age Defying Classic Nighttime Moisturizer, so I combined the two. I apply the Oil of Olay, and then the Clinique Moisture Surge Overnight Mask.
I couldn’t believe how much better my skin looked! It’s crazy!!
I think I was always worried that I would get more breakouts by applying moisturizing products to my face. I thought the acne would go away when I passed through the teenage years…nope, once a month I get breakouts like crazy, and my pores always look porrible (see what I did there… ha, ha, ha, I crack myself up).
I was so happy with how young my skin was looking, so I started to look into different cleaners. I have always been an Apricot Scrub girl, but I found a Biore Charcoal Pore Unclogging Scrub that I totally love. It has a really nice citrusy smell, and my skin feels so good afterwards.
In the morning, I clean my face, and apply Maybelline Dream BB Pure Skin Clearing Perfector 8-in-1 Beauty Balm. This one is my favorite so far. It’s not a super fancy brand…I bought it at Dollar General. I don’t like to wear heavy make-up. I live in Florida… it melts by the end of the day anyway. I apply the Beauty Balm, and then dust a little with loose powder. I add some mascara and lip gloss, and I’m ready for the day.
The #1 most IMPORTANT thing I do for my skin is drink water. I’ve cut WAY, WAY, WAY down on Diet Coke. The only time I drink one is at the movie theater, and that’s pretty rare since it costs around $70 for four of us to watch a movie.
Other than the occasional glass of wine (again, don’t judge… sometimes you just need a glass of Pinot Noir), I try to drink a LOT of water. I feel like a failure if I drink less than 8 glasses… but I’m working on getting down 12. I’m also working on replacing my morning java addiction with green tea.
In addition, I’m working on adding more fruits and vegetables to my diet, and cutting down on junk food.
I’ll be 40 in September… I don’t have to LOOK like I’m about to be 40 though.
