North Lake Community Park
One of our favorite parks is the North Lake Community Park in Umatilla, Florida. This place is MASSIVE! We discovered it last year when we were exploring new areas for Pokémon hunting (told you I was a nerd).
We searched for places that not only had a lot of walking areas for catching Pokémon and hatching Pokémon eggs… but where our youngest child could find places to play. This park has it all.
Features and Activities
There is a huge play area, with a smaller section right next to it for smaller children. It also contains an area that looks pretty similar to American Ninja Warrior (yeah, neither my husband or I have the coordination (or balance) yet to attempt them).
There are four huge soccer/football fields and four baseball fields, and a walking path that wraps around the entire complex. We average walking four to eight miles (depending on the heat) every time we go… and Michael can run at top speed.
The park also contains exercise stations which include an exercise bike, elliptical machine, a gazelle-type machine, pull up and triceps dip section, an abs-twist area, and a sit-up bench. We have so much fun using them. I did get a LITTLE stuck on the sit-up bench…it’s been awhile since I worked on my abs.
When we plan on visiting the park we pack snacks and a cooler with drinks because it’s further away from our house than some of the other parks we visit… but it’s SO worth it. We also bring hats and sunglasses… there isn’t much shade when you’re walking. However, there are GREAT pavilions everywhere.
The best part is we get to bond with the boys, and they get to run their hearts out. Michael has SO much energy (I would kill for just a small portion of his energy), so he gets REALLY excited that he can go full speed in a wide-open area.
When he gets bored of running, my son, Scotty, takes him to the park to play. He’s such an amazing big brother.
By the time we head home, we’re exhausted and sun-kissed (or burnt, depending on how you word it), but really happy. We get home, eat dinner… and pass out.
