Ok…how many people laughed when they read that? I’m laughing…and I wrote it. We are MOMS…we don’t get free time. I can’t tell you how many articles I’ve read that talk about the importance of unwinding and having time to regroup.
Well, yeah, that’s great…but, again, we are MOMS! A friend of mine and I tried to plan a girls’ night out once. We are boring people…neither of us like bars or crowds, and neither drink.
We planned on getting something quick to eat and watching a movie. OUR HUSBANDS ALMOST HAD A HEART ATTACK!!! We both ended up feeling so guilty that we cancelled it and haven’t tried to plan another one….and that was two years ago.
For all of you moms that have understanding husbands who encourage you to make time for yourself…please go grab them and do something VERY nice for them.
For the rest of us…we have to get creative (Ok, in my husband’s defense, he did take the boys to the park one day so I could watch Blue Bloods on Netflix without having people jumping on me).
I LOVE to read…There is no lighting in our room. Our overhead fanlight hasn’t worked for some time, and it’s low on the totem pole of things we plan to fix right now. I was talking about that to my boss one day and she suggested iPhone Books and Kindle on my phone.
Hmmm…let me try it!
It actually worked out pretty good. I didn’t get a headache, or eyestrain, and though my husband still hasn’t caught on that the players and coach can NOT hear him through the TV…I was still able to enjoy free books.
Since I am outvoted on what to watch on the TV at night, I am SO grateful to be able to watch Netflix on my laptop (or phone).
Though I’m still surrounded by yelling, screaming testosterone…I can plug my headphones in and watch whatever show I’m currently addicted to (catching up on Blue Bloods).
Once and awhile, I’m even able to hear it above them yelling at the TV.
Going to the gym during lunch is also my “ME” time. I go with my husband at 4am…but it’s different to be able to go by myself and do what I want to do.
I LOVE working out with my husband, but it’s still nice to be able to jump on the treadmill and run (well, it looks kind of like running).
I’m one of those people that is absolutely terrified of going places by myself…. but I suck it up and focus on how great I’m going to feel for the rest of the afternoon.
What do you do to get creative with “ME” time?
